CORPORATE RESPONSIBILITY
ANIMAL WELFARE: MULESING-FREE MERINO WOOL
At Phil Petter, responsible business practices and animal welfare are a high priority: We source our guaranteed mulesing-free merino wool from breeders who adhere to strict regulations to protect merino sheep.
The merino wool we use is of the highest quality and is certified according to RWS standards and OEKO-Tex.
WHAT IS MULESING?
Mulesing is a highly painful, preventative procedure on Merino sheep in which folds of skin around their tails are cut off (without anesthesia and often without wound care) to protect them from myiasis, the infestation of fly maggots.
This practice is common practice, for example, with Merino sheep in Australia – the main country of origin of Australia.
Since the Merino sheep from which we get our Merino wool at Phil Petter have not been bred at all, there is no danger of fly maggots nesting.
